About
I've always been terrible at introductions, so I'll skip it and get into the fun stuff. Expertly Dyed was born out of the fun I had with my Master's dissertation in Museum Studies where I was finally able to work towards a Master's of Science (a great thing for an archaeologist). To do this, I needed to conduct experiments and take on the science aspect of museums. I decided to learn how to dye with cochineal, prepare and spin alpaca, and weave samples which would be later bombarded with lasers. I had a blast making my own yarn and then watching the colors reveal themselves during the dyeing process. It was only a matter of time before I grew giddy with the idea of doing this as a business.
After submitting my proposal in July 2010, I suddenly had an abundance of free time, something I'm not used to having. Out of boredom and excitement, I began the arduous task of researching yarn and fiber wholesalers, which dyes to use and which dye companies, methods and directions. I spent one and a half months testing and tweaking colors, trying various methods, and settling on color names. After extensive and essentially exhaustive research, late November I decided on a product line and launch colors.
In December 2010, Expertly Dyed became official. So far it's been a fantastic start and I wish only the best things to come. Thank you all for supporting my business and making me a happy and grateful entrepreneur!
